One day a carpenter was sawing a large log to divide it into two parts. A monkey sitting in a tree was watching him. The carpenter stopped his work at lunch time. Only half of portion of the log was cut by then. So he pushed a wedge into the split and then went for lunch.
After the carpenter had gone, the monkey jumped down from the tree. He went round the log and observed it for some time. He stopped at the wedge and looked at it curiously. His curiosity mounted. So he sat down on the log keeping it between his two legs. His long tail was dangling down through the wide split. He handled the wedge out of curiosity. Suddenly he pulled out the wedge. As soon as the wedge was removed, the split parts of the log stuck together with a snap and caught the monkey’s tail.
The monkey gave out a loud cry with pain and jumped off. His tail was gone for ever.
